Non-Toxic Chalk for Kids

non-toxic chalk

I have been itching for Rain to use her 2-in-1 easel stand which Rain received from her Ninong Ryan. One side is a black board and the other side is a magnetic white board. I have been wanting her to try using the black board side but I was worried that chalks are toxic. Although after some research I learned that chalks really won't do any harm because it's made from calcium sulphate or calcium carbonate, of course as a first-time mom I was still hesitant. All I knew was to only buy stuff that are branded as "non-toxic".

So, are there non-toxic chalks? I asked around National Bookstore and to my delight, yes there was!

non-toxic chalk

The brand is Dong-A. (Girls my age are probably familiar with the brand because they also make those attractive gel pens we used in high school hehe). The box also says"dustless". Perfect! I was worried that Rain might inhale the chalk dust.

non-toxic chalk

One box of 12 colors is only P15.75 (That's only $0.36!) And for a box of 12 colors? Not bad!

non-toxic chalk

I just love the variety of colors it has! Here's the color palette I made using all the colors in the box. As you can see they're not just basic colors.

non-toxic chalk

Rain certainly loves it! Was it dustless? Not completely, but definitely creates far less dust than the normal chalk. You would still have dust on your fingers, but not so much flying around the room.

non-toxic chalk

I was so amazed with the colors that I felt the urge to draw. So I drew Olaf for her hehehe. Do you wanna build a snowman?

sofia the first chalk

The other day she asked me to draw "Sofia feeeerst" (Sofia the First). Don't mind my quick poor drawing hahaha! Then as a final touch, I drew Sofia's necklace. Then she suddenly pointed it out and said "Amulet!" I didn't even teach her that! She surprises me every time! (Thank you Disney Jr.!)

non-toxic chalk

Now if only I had the confidence to home-school Rain, this blackboard would be the perfect teaching apparatus! :-)

My Little Tour at Disneyland Hotel, Hong Kong

Okay I feel kind of funny posting this when we didn't really check in (we only had a Character dining at Enchanted Garden), but it's just so beautiful so I think it's worth posting! And in lieu of the law of attraction, I shall claim that we will check in here sometime in the near future! :-)

disney hotel hong kong

Ladies and gentlemen, Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel!!!

After our fun dinner at Enchanted Garden with the Disney characters (post coming soon!), Richie and I opted to stay to look around a bit while the rest of the family went back to Disney Hollywood Hotel. I felt like a kid roaming around wonderland! Above is a photo of Disney Hotel from the backyard. My picture doesn't do it justice. It's really a huge beautiful Victorian hotel!

disney hotel hong kong

Entering the lobby, this will be your view. Victorian touches everywhere!

On your right and left side are bronze statues of Mickey and Minnie situated on top of short pillar pedestals

disney hotel hong kong

Here's the front desk. So bright!

disney hotel hong kong

A close up of the front desk reveals Victorian paintings that reminded me of Mary Poppins settings. (#17 Cherry Tree Lane? Hehehe)

disney hotel hong kong

Walk by the center where the couches are and then look up! Super duper high ceiling! Probably 5 or 6 floors high!

disney hotel hong kong

A huge breathtaking chandelier that kind of reminded me of the chandelier in Beast's ballroom. They have 2 of these beauties in the lobby by the way.

Victorian lobby couches and chairs

The beautiful Victorian elevator! Love the Victorian grill touch! I've said it before and I'll say it again. Disney takes its themes very seriously!

See what I mean? Even the ATMs are Victorian!

Halls are so bright, classy, and dainty!

I love the walls! Paintings with Victorian images everywhere! I actually felt like I was in a palace!

Disney Hotel Rooms. I got grabbed this photo from Magical Mouse Holidays website. Isn't it beautiful?

Walt Cafe

Walt Cafe

Walt's Cafe is the restaurant right beside the lobby

Walt Cafe

Again, very Victorian. The highlight of this restaurant are the never-before-seen photos of Mr. Walt Disney on these beautiful warm walls. Pictures of some of the beautiful moments of his life. They serve breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even evening desserts. You can choose from  Walt's Semi Buffet, magical soufflés and a wide choice of international gourmet.

Walt Cafe

Love the wooden floors! The place was closed already so I only took these photos from outside the windows. (Stalker much?)

Crystal Lotus

Crystal Lotus Disney

Crystal Lotus is also very special because its their award-winning restaurant that serves China cuisine specifically  specialties from Sichuan, Beijing, Shanghai and Guangdong. There's a specially created Disney Dim Sum which I am definitely going to try next time!

Crystal Lotus Disney

Here's Crystal Lotus' entrance. They were also already closed when I made my "rounds".

Crystal Lotus Disney

Oh, and beside the entrance is a wall filled with lots of Crystal Lotuses! Pretty!

Enchanted Garden

enchanted garden disney

At the lower ground level is the Enchanted Garden. This is where we got to hang out with Mickey and the gang! Post coming soon! :-)

enchanted garden disney

As soon as you step inside, you'll feel like you actually stepped outside into a beautiful Victorian garden!

enchanted garden disney

They have a huge international buffet. So huge that I didn't get to taste them all haha! The place is quite huge as well. I think it's the biggest out of all 3 restaurants here in Disney Hotel.

Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique

Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique

Your little princesses will surely have a fabulous time getting a royal make-over at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique where your little girl will be transformed into a beautiful Disney Princess by Fairy Godmothers in training (also known as stylists hehe)!

Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique

They have different packages to choose from. The packages include Disney Princess costumes, complete with hair and make up, even nail polish and accessories! (Step aside, Fab Five! Hahaha!). No wonder there are a lot of little Disney Princesses walking around in Disneyland Park! We didn't get to bring Rain here. I'm sure the next time we go this would be something she would really enjoy!

Crown Package
HK$650 includes:
  • hair styling with designated crown
  • shimmering make up
  • finger nail polishing

Hope you enjoyed my Disney Hotel Tour! I hope the next time I post about Disney Hotel would be from the point of view of a guest! I am attracting you in my life!!!

Antipolo nail spa

I'm sure you've noticed the number of nail spas that have been popping up all over the metro. And I'm amazed at the number of services they can do just for your hands, feet, and nails. But if you're in Antipolo, you don't need to go far to treat yourself to a relaxing "me time". Because Nailissima Spa and Waxing Salon in Antipolo can give you that much-deserved pampering!

Antipolo nail spa

Nail spas are usually all nicely decorated. Usually very dainty and girly, most using pink ad purple color themes. Very Barbie. (Which can be too much for me). But Nailissima is very nicely designed, using more neutral colors. The place is white, with olive green chairs (with grey undertones), and then the walls have that Victorian touch, using light gray Victorian patterns. I really like how they fixed the place up!

Antipolo nail spa

And to add more class, a pretty chandelier in the middle lights up the place!

Love the pillows!

And I thought this framed pattern was a nice touch! Such a simple idea which turned out really nice.

Antipolo nail spa

One fine weekend, our usual blogger group of friends went for a fun Antipolo food trip with our friend Yedy of Yedilicious.com as our guide. And one of our stops were Nailissima for some pampering.

Antipolo nail spa

Richard (Tales from the Tummy) and his adorable daughter both got foot spas. What a cute father and daughter bonding moment! Hehehehe.

Antipolo nail spa

Also there were the lovely daughters of Jane Go, Jana and Jena (also known as the Sugar and Spice Family hehehe) Such a close and sweet family!

Antipolo nail spa

Richie had the classic foot spa which is only P200! It was his first time ever and he's not used to people tinkering with his feet hehehe. So he was a bit ticklish.

Antipolo nail spa

Here he is covering his face with a towel to keep from laughing!

Antipolo nail spa

But after the foot rubbing, he was relaxed as a........... a baby who had just taken a nice bath (Sorry I can't think of a more creative analogy hahahaha!)

Antipolo nail spa

Here are the services you can get from Nailissima. I'm amazed at how affordable it is! Especially for the beauty of the place! And as you can see, they're not just about hands and feet. They've got a number of Touch Therapy too! I am really eyeing that Volcanic stone massage. Must try that soon!

Hurry and enjoy a 10% discount on Nailissima's regular services! To make an appointment, please call 09162226245.

Food, Drinks, and Live Music at Jet 7 Bistro!

Jet 7 Bistro

I seriously doubt I can count the number of restaurants in Quezon City. It's like everywhere you look, a restaurant is there. Which makes it quite a challenge to decide on where to eat when you're in this area. Seriously. The choices are overwhelming! But just the other night I was introduced to this red hip bistro along Timog Avenue. It's Jet 7 Bistro. A place of good drinks, good food, and good music!

bistro

The interiors are of a classy red and black bistro

Jet 7 Bar

They've got a bar on the back corner

al fresco

And an al fresco area by the entrance

live music

This is where the band plays

Mr. Luigi Nunez

Jet 7 Bistro also introduced their Brand Ambassador that evening, Mr. Luigi Nunez, who also happens to be the CEO of Beer Below Zero. He admits that he keeps coming back to Jet 7 Bistro particularly for the French Cut Rib Eye Steak, saying it's the best steak he's had so far.

Art and Soul Band

Two bands were serenading everyone that evening and they played beautiful soul songs that I'm familiar with. So I was really enjoying myself.

girl band

I don't usually miss going out at night since I became a mom who would just rather sleep the night away but it's places like this that reminded me of how fun ladies night outs can be. Especially when there's good music playing in the background. I was 'thisclose' to grabbing the mic away from the lead vocal hahaha! As if...

ceviche

Aaaaanyway, that evening, food bloggers and media people gathered to experience what Jet 7 Bistro has to offer. And  I can safely say everyone looked like they had a great time. We started with a spoon of Ceviche. Not in the menu, but I liked the mixture of freshness of the vegetables and mangoes, and there was heat somewhere in there.

bread

And then came the bread rolls which are made fresh and baked everyday. I really loved this. The bread is really good. Very soft and tasty, and then spread some butter and dip it in olive oil. Heaven!!! Richie would have loved adding the roasted garlic if he was there. I'm not really a fan of roasted garlic. (I'm weird like that)

chicken and bbq

Next up was the Herb Roasted Chicken (P395)and BBQ Beef Ribs (P800) which if I'm not mistaken are really two different entrees combined together in sampler plate for the night. Both meat were moist and very flavorful. Though I personally like the herby taste of the chicken better. Richie for sure would have preferred the sweet BBQ Beef Ribs, as expected hehe.

french steak

And then the star of the noche buena feast arrived. Say hello to Jet 7 Bistro's prie and joy... the French Cut Rib Eye (P3,800). Yes it's pricey. But you can't really expect it to be cheap especially when it's a 28 ox. USDA Angus steak It;'s probably good for sharing between 3 friends, or 2 hungry people. It's seasoned just right and made me want to look for garlic rice haha! You can specify how you want your steak done and the chefs will gladly do it for you. Served with au jus sauce.

french steak

I think that deserves another close up!

I heard another one of their specialties is the Dungeness Crab but I didn't get to try it yet. Anyway, last but not the least, the dessert...

strawberry sabayon

The  Strawberry Sabayon was the dessert they served us that evening. (Not on the menu)

chef jet 7 bistro

Chef Chris and Chef Bobby are the brains and the captain of the kitchen of Jet 7 Bistro. They both spent time in the states, and amusingly, both started from the bottom (as dish washers) and worked their way to the top. Inspiring!

They actually have a pretty extensive menu. From breakfast, to steaks to pastas to salads to sandwiches, burgers, and even a kid's menu. For sure there's something for every palette. (See the menu at the end of this post). Jet 7 Bistro was actually the official  food sponsor / caterer at the VIP section of the FHM 100 Sexiest Women of the World 2014 that's happening as I type this blog post.

bistro with friends

So if ever you're in Quezon City and just want to unwind, with good food and wine and bop your head along with good live music, try Jet 7 Bistro located at the G/F President Tower, 81 Timog Ave. cor. Sct. Ybardolaza St. South Triangle, Quezon City (And soon in BGC!)

Play and Teach with Ogalala System in Play!

I have a confession to make. I allow Rain to play with her tablet or watch Disney Junior and Sesame Street when she wants.

Back track....I am not confident with my teaching skills. And that's okay. I have accepted that and I am in line with that fact. It's no biggie. But of course, being a mom to a 2+ year old, I have to start focusing on making sure that Rain isn't just all-play. I should already start making more effort in teaching her more school stuff since she's going to school next year.

But in my mind, I thought that teaching a toddler would mean having sort of the same set-up as a normal school. I'm thinking I would need a blackboard, colored chalk, and some flash cards. Just the thought of it makes me sleepy. And I know that Rain's quick toddler attention span will not mix well with a traditional classroom set up.

So going back to my confession, I allow Rain to play with her iPad and watch children's shows almost all the time and this is only because I see that Rain is learning a lot from it. With age-appropriate educational apps, Rain was able to learn her ABCs, her animals, animal sounds, shapes, and now trying to master her colors. And because I exposed her to a lot of Sesame Street videos and Disney Junior, she has heard tons of versions of the alphabet song, and has picked up a lot of expressions and the right situation to use them in. (All under my constant supervision of course).

little girl

So what's my point? All these things I would not have been able to quickly and effectively teach Rain if I only  did the boring old flash cards and sing the my own cover of the alphabet song over and over hehe. And it's thanks to Ogalala System in Play that they made me realize that there are fun ways of teaching my little Rainbow while at the same time having fun with her favorite toys! She won't suspect it one tiny bit bwahahaha!

kids playing

Parents today are often busy with work, and that not all parents are stay-at-home. Even if a parent stays at home, she's also got tons of other things to take care of.  And Ogalala understands this. This is why they have thought of a way to intertwine play time with learning. With the Ogalala way, all kids will enjoy learning because everything is through play and creativity.

ogalala partners

And the best part? It's something that us parents can do at home! Together with these amazing brands, Ogalala makes learning fun in all levels.

teacher maia ogalala

I was lucky to sit in with the preschooler session just the other weekend and see how Ogalala works. Teacher Maia was an excellent teacher! (I wish I could have her natural knack for teaching kids hehe aaanyway...), she was there to actually teach the moms how to teach our children while bonding at the same time.

Ogalala has a daily schedule that parents can make a routine out of for a month, so your children can master these fun activities - slash - lesson!

animal puzzle

An example of one of the activities is this Melissa and Doug animal puzzles, which is a partner of Ogalala. While these may seem like a simple puzzle, it goes beyond fitting the correct pieces into the right hole.

animal puzzle

Your child will easily master which animal goes where. No doubt about that. But after he or she has mastered the puzzle part and the naming the animals part, these pieces are actually thick enough to stand up. So from there, you can continue "playing" with your little one but this time, you can compare two animals.

teaching puzzle

Which animal has a long neck? Which animal has spots? Which animal has stripes? This way, your kid is learning about patterns, and about comparing, while having a fun bonding moment with you! You can also start doing roll plays with the animals and allow your kid to let their imagination go wild!

building blocks

Blocks are also a great way to sharpen your kids imagination! So again, building blocks are not limited to building and creating activities. Ogalala is partnered with EMCO, a non-toxic  plastic building toy that helps improve motor skills and is a great bonding activity for the whole family.

building blocks

Check out this ship that Rain built with the help of her yaya! Ogalala gave me an idea that I could also practice Rain on her colors by holding up a block and asking what color that block is. I can also practice her counting skills by gathering a few blocks, and asking her to count it for me. It's that easy!

toddler arts

Table top activities are also part of their suggested scheduled activities that you can do at home. By using a variety of art tools like Crayola products, your little one will have fun creating her very own masterpiece as she lets her imagination and creativity run free.

activity books

These Melissa and Doug activity books are a perfect tool! Kids can color these fun pages using only water. They also have sticker pads where the stickers are reusable so your kids can stick them on and off, creating wonderful stories with the stickers.Your kids for sure will have fun working on 2-3 pages per day. Don't do all pages at once so this gives them something to look forward to for the following day.

ogalala toys

There are a lot of other brands that Oglalala featuress like CrayolaAnimal Planet, Baby Einstein, Discovery Kids, Oops, and Artec. And you can have fun shopping for these fun products at Toy Kingdom to aid your lesson plan at home! These toys are of best quality so don't be surprised when you see that the price is not cheap. Of course, only the best quality for your child, right?

pinypon

But this of course doesn't mean that only these brands will work for this system in play. Of course you can use your child's existing toys as visual aids for your lesson plan! In my case, Rain loves loves loves PinyPon. (Can't blame her. They are awfully cute!) So after learning the Ogalala way, I started to brush her up again on her colors by comparing her PinyPon dolls through roll play (hitting two birds with one stone) "Hi! What color is your hair?""What color is my hair?" Good thing PinyPons have wacky-colored hair!

disney magic clip fashion

She also loves her new Disney Princess Magic Clip Fashion. I do the same thing by doing role play with her, teaching her different colors, and counting how many princesses she has, or how many gowns the princesses have.

puppet

For younger toddlers, it's fun to do some puppet show with your children's dolls, or with these HABA Soft toys for infants and toddlers.

Okay! We can totally do this! But ... uh.... yeah....I do need to be strict on the schedule very soon. So far we don't follow any schedule haha! Because most days, we're out. But Teacher Maia stressed that children actually crave for routine. I guess having a routine makes them less anxious since they already know what to expect next. Makes sense.

ogalala schedule

Here's the preschool schedule handed out to us during the session. Just 3 exercises in the morning, and 3 exercises in the afternoon. It comes with goals, what the child can learn in each activity, and what materials I can use. On the left side are check boxes so I can track which activities we've done already. I'm sure with all the repetition we'll be making, it will support her physical, intellectual, language, and social and emotional development, and more importantly, have fun while learning! No stress for her! Which in return is no stress for me too!

So if you think about it, the Ogalala System in Play is like home-schooling your toddler but in a fun way, as if you're just playing!

Special thanks to the Ogalala Philippines Team especially my new friend Rikka for inviting me to this ' light bulb' type of session! I really learned a lot and I believe this will help Rain learn to love learning! ;-)

Play-Doh Playground at Toy Kingdom, Megamall

playdoh playground

It wasn't until a few weeks ago when I was walking around Megamall Building A when I noticed a separate room inside Toy Kingdom with 4 kiddie round tables and kids having a great time creating something. I looked closely and saw that they were playing with Play-Doh. A Play-Doh room?! How come I never knew this before? My little Rainbow will love this for sure! So when the time came that I had an event in Megamall, I took Rain and her yaya with me. But this time instead of playing and waiting for me at Active Fun, I thought it would be a great opportunity to try the Play-Doh Playground!

playdoh playground

Turns out that during weekends, they have fun activities for the kids. A Free demo from 2-6PM, and a meet-and-greet with fun mascots Mr. Play-Doh Tub and Mr. Potato Head! But since it was a weekday that day, it was just going to be free play day. Fine by me, and perfect for Rain who has a short attention span anyways.

playdoh playground

In each table are different kinds of Play-Doh apparatus that kids can freely play with. Though I noticed that most of it had some missing parts. So aside from the obvious molds,  it was quite hard to figure out how to really play with them.

playdoh playground

Another bummer...The friendly Play-Doh attendants would bring out around 4 small tubs of Play-Doh for each kid to play, but if you open the tubs, they're all just one color. BROWN. Not the prettiest Play-Doh color haha! But I totally understand because I know how kids mix up the Play-Doh colors, resulting to dark green or brown anyways. Nevertheless, a kid as young as my little Rainbow won't really mind as long as there's Play-Doh.

playdoh playground

Plus side? It's FREE ADMISSION! Just go in there, sit down with your kid and play! Definitely a lot cheaper than taking Rain to Active Fun. And your little one can still meet and socialize with other kids!

Play-Doh Playground

This photo was taken the previous weekend when I was at Megamall for another event. As you can see the place is packed because of the free demo. I wasn't able to take a photo of the actual demo because my event had already started.

mr. playdoh

And here's Rain and her Yaya's photo with Mr. Play-Doh Tub!

Mr. Potato Head

And the hubby Mr. Pickiest Eater also couldn't resist taking a photo with Mr. Potato Head. He loves potatoes. Run Mr. Potato Head!!! Hehehehe :-)

The Play-Doh Playground is a great place where you can leave your child with the yaya for just an hour or so. But if you need to leave them for longer hours, it's still better to leave them a play places such as Gymboree or Active Fun for added security and for more kiddie attractions.

Sundalong Kanin: A Cinemalaya Finalist Movie by Janice O'Hara

SUNDALONG KANIN. A movie about 4 boys out to prove that they’re ready for battle against the Japanese army. But what started as friendship lead to anger and despair as they needed to face each other as enemies.

As a mom, I’ve been very sensitive about movies concerning babies or children. And by sensitive, I mean I become a CRY BABY hahaha! I’m curious as to what to expect from this CINEMALAYA FINALIST MOVIE directed by Janice O’Hara. But I’ve been hearing nothing but positive things about it!

Sundalong Kanin is now showing in all Ayala Malls at 4pm, Greenbelt 3 at 4pm, ATC cinema 4 at 4PM. Come and watch and support the Philippine movie industry!

Synopsis:

sundalong kanin

The movie sets back in 1941 when the Philippines was caught in a war between other countries, and sadly, innocent people were being killed. But in the small town of San Nicolas, four boys (Badong, Carding, Benny, and Nitoy) felt that this was an opportunity to prove that they were mature enough to fight for their country.

sundalong kanin

But with their arrows and slingshots, and of course their age, no one, especially the guerillas, were taking them seriously. But that never stopped them from continuing their mission. They spied on the Japanese soldiers that were now occupying their school. And then they passed valuable information on to the guerillas.

sundalong kanin

But the plot thickens when the people they love unfortunately become victims of the war. Because then now they have to face each other, not as friends, but as foes.  Each with the mission to avenge their families, continue to fight like a soldier to protect the people that they love.

About the Director:

This year proves to be a big year for Janice as she takes a break from her teleseryes and moves on to the big screen by directing “Sundalong Kanin,”,a finalist in this year’s Cinemalaya Festival.

Reading up on Oilily, I found out that it goes back in the year 1963 in Netherlands when children were often dressed up in grey, white, or black clothes only. I guess you could say that they didn't live in 'technicolor' times. Enter Willem and Marieke Olsthoorn, and all of that changed. They started using children's colorful experiences as their inspiration for a brand that makes beautiful children's clothes.

oilily skirt

I was thrilled to see that one of my Little Rainbow's hand-me-down skirts (which I knew was from Germany) was actually an Oilily brand. I should have known based on the colors, patterns, and the wild combination!

Anyway, I was also impressed to find out that celebrities were among their regular customers namely John Travolta, Madonna, Bill Cosby, and my idol Michael Jackson!  So anyway, long story short, they eventually also started creating a line for women (wherein I also learned that Oilily’s Famous ambassadors of  women’s clothing are actresses Julia Roberts and Melanie Griffith!), and then eventually they also started doing cosmetics and perfume!

oilily megamall

It was my first time to visit an Oilily store when I was invited along with other bloggers to view their new branch at SM Megamall, Ground floor, Building A. And although I was a tad sad that Oilily Philippines were not selling the clothes part, it was still a delight to see the happy and colorful patterns that Oilily takes pride in! It's really something a female would be attracted to! You'll see what I mean with these parade of Oilily bags!....

Different bag sets with pretty patterns! Remember that Oilily never repeats it's pattern per season. Never ever. So if you see a certain print or pattern that you just absolutely adore in this season's collection, really think about getting it because you won't see it ever again!

Attractive duffle bags! A nice conversational piece at slumber parties! Hehehe

And here's one of my favorites. I love how the pattern has lots of details but looks very clean at the same time.

Looking for an attractive diaper bag? Check these out! The green one comes with a changing mat too!

Amazing patterns and details on these bags!

I believe these items are on 20% off until the end of August!

I can imagine taking these on a family trip like the beach, or a picnic.

Oh and check this out! The small flat rectangular bag on the left, unfolds into a huge almost-duffel bag tote bag!

And let's not forget the tablet / netbook bags!

And here are other items you can find on Oilily Megamall branch. You can find pouches, umbrellas, and tablet and cellphone casings. (Am really eyeing those casings!)

And as I mentioned earlier, Oilily Philippines also have the perfumes and cosmetics!

toddlers hug

Rain and her new friend Lizzy loved touring the shop! Next problem, what Oilily bag to buy hahaha!

Oilily also has branches in ATC and Greenbelt 3. To get updates and to find out more about Oilily Philippines, like them on Facebook (OililyPh), and check out Oilily's official website here. Don't forget to take advantage of Olily's 20% off on selected items! Only until end of August. Don't say I didn't warn ya! ;-)

Meet My New Buddy Powerbank, Digibud!

digibud powerbank

Being an iPhone user, I NEED long-lasting battery. Therefore I need a powerbank. So I got all excited when I saw this post in Facebook about an 11MAH powerbank that's on 70% off.  (First of all you should know that I like gadgets. I get excited about gadgets specifically smartphones or things related to smartphones. I'm not specific about specs and I don't really know all the nitty gritty details. But I'd like to believe I know a bit more than the average girl.)

digibud powerbank

So anyway, I immediately checked the Facebook Page of Digibud and can kinda tell that the brand had good quality. I mean it's 11 MAH which means I can charge my phone up to 7 times with it. It's got an IC protector which protects your smartphone from over-charging. Although ion lithium batteries automatically stop charging when it's full, but still you can never tell. Especially with all the horror stories about faulty cables or power banks. It also has 2 outlets so you can charge two devices at the same time.

digibud powerbank

And I love the fact that it has a display (with backlight!) showing the exact percentage of the power.

digibud powerbank

Yes it is huge and quite heavy compared to other powerbanks. But come on! 11 MAH!!!! Of course it's going to be big! I've been using it only for a few weeks now and so far, so good! Now I won't be as worried when I know I'll be out of the house for the whole day!

Oh, and did I mention this product is proudly Pinoy? ;-)

Word is that they will be coming out with a newer model soon! So like Digibud Electronics on Facebook to get updates!

Johnson & Johnson: See The Real Me. A Teen-powerment Program

school event

Being a teenager is tough. I'm sure we all know that. Of course it's that stage where we cross the bridge between being a child to being and adult. The changes can be drastic. And it can be pretty hard to deal with. The age of teens is a package deal. With it comes your first crush, maybe first puppy love, pimples, and for us girls, we also have to deal with our monthly period. (Ugh! It's tough being a girl!) Too many changes all at the same time, coupled with stress from school. Not to mention peer pressure and most importantly, low self confidence.

(L-R) J&J Marketing Manager Via Abano, Clean and Clear Brand Manager Gabrielle Solomon,
and Country Director - Retail Tina Sabarre

But this is exactly why Johnson and Johnson came up with this Teen-powerment campaign. They realize that a lot of teens are being lead to believe that in order to be accepted by the society or rather to be "in", you have to look and be a certain way. So Johnson and Johnson, along with its spearheaded by it's leading brands Clean & Clear, Modess, and Carefree, are going around schools nationwide to empower teens and show them that this should not be the case. With proper knowledge on how to deal with teen problems, teens can be more confident in showing the real them.

Makati High School

Their first school stop and actual program launching was held lasy July 30 at Makati High School

krissy and erika

During the launch, Krissy and Ericka Villongco, two sisters who became famous from their Youtube song covers are now the Clean and Clear Ambassadors. And they sung the campaign's anthem called See The Real Me during the launch.

It's actually a nice song. The lyrics says it all. These girls are very talented. To be honest it's the first time I've heard of them because of this event (No offense, since I became a toddler's mom, all we ever watch is Disney Junior.)

makati high school

4th year Makati High School students Regine, Maria, and Kim gives us a peek on today's teenage girl's mind. They explained that they can't help but compare themselves to others. Why is she prettier than me, why does she have beautiful skin and I don't, and so on.

aileen sison

Aileen Sison, a teen psychologist from Cribs Foundation, explains that teens should feel more confident and empowered especially during their puberty so as not to stop themselves from really showing their real talents, their real interests, and to show what an amazing character each of these teens have.

makati high school

During the See The Real Me Teen-powerment program, JnJ will go to around 1,500 schools nationwide, covering NCR, Metro Manila, Bulacan, and Cavite, where they will hold a talk with activities that cover physiological, emotional, and social components.

makati high school

Their goal is to change the mindset of teens that all these physical and emotional changes are nothing to be ashamed about and should not hinder them from showing the real them. That these changes are milestones that should be celebrated.

makati high school

The talk is interactive. Here they are showing the proper way to wash a teen's delicate face. Clean and Clear is perfect for teens because it's very delicate, thus it won't be too harsh on our teen's skin.

makati high school

Downstairs, fun booths await the students, further emphasizing the message to #SeeTheRealMe

makati high school
The beautiful smiles...
makati high school
... of Makati High School!

And so to all the teens out there, I know it's hard. But don't be conscious. When I was a teen, I always had a set of pimples on my face. It was always oily, my hair was frizzy, and I was honestly conscious about my looks and my level of "coolness". That's normal. Even now, sometimes I feel this way too. But in time, you'll learn not to care, bounce back, and just be yourself.

An old pic of me and my sis. It's blurred but trust me--- pimpleville and frizzyhair town.

So here's my reflection about the whole See The Real Me campaign, and my message to all the teens out there:

Those pimples and periods, and other body changes are just appearances. There's more to teen life than that. Teenage life should be fun and adventurous (in a good way), this is the stage where you find out more about yourself, your interests, your talents, and more. This is the age where you surprise everyone, even yourself, on what you are capable of doing.

So if you're a geek, be a geek. If you want to be a dancer, dance like there's no tomorrow. If you're a frustrated actress, be an Oscar winner in your own universe. If you're a frustrated singer, be the "Grammy Best New Artist" in your own world.

The tip is that when you feel aligned to what you really want... when you feel aligned to the real you, you will rock! When you feel good about yourself, you will shine, and nothing can stop you!

Barbie: Life in the Dreamhouse (and Free Play at Toy Kingdom!)

boomco

I was a bit sad to see that the Play-Doh Free Play thing at Toy Kingdom was just a phase. It was a limited thing. When I went there last weekend, the free play room was now converted into a BoomCo room. A BoomCo apparently was referred to as "the ultimate toy for boys". Of course this translated to a room filled with rowdy boys. And I felt the little Rainbow was still too small and petite to be in the middle of all that. With that, my heart kind of sank. Toy Kingdom, what about the little girls?!? :-(

barbie free play

But we went inside anyway, and that's when I saw that the space where they held the Ogalala session I attended last July was turned into Barbie's Dream House! It's a FREE PLAY area for little girls! Bravo Toy Kingdom! They answered my question right away!

I'll be honest. I never really liked Barbie.  Not until I discovered the Barbie: Life in the Dream House app that I got for Rain on iTunes. Barbie Life in the Dreamhouse is a Barbie animation that shows the world of Barbie, not as a normal human being, but as an actual Barbie doll. Meaning they look exactly like toys. Exactly like Disney's Toy Story.

barbie lipstick

Even their make up looks like a Barbie real-life toy make up with its actual size hahaha!

life in the dreamhouse

I like it because I find it funny! Sam type of witty humor as Toy Story. And the treatment of the video is sort of like a reality show where there are testimonial / interview shots in between. But besides it being funny, it also focuses on Barbie being a career woman. I think this is a good way of marketing Barbie. After all, she does have 150+ careers and counting! It teaches kids that they can be anything they want, and anything is possible.

Rain likes it. But I think I like it more hahaha! You can watch the episodes here

barbie toys

Anyway, back to the free play, the area was decorated like Barbie's dream house.

barbie toys

Toy Kingdom placed huge Barbie dream doll houses inside that girls can play with. And of course a couple of Barbie dolls.

While little girls play with the dolls, a Barbie movie plays in the background. But it's not Life in the Dreamhouse though. I wish it was hahaha!

Tsk tsk tsk.... I couldn't resist taking shameless selfies with Barbie and Ken! (Ken's character in Life in the Dreamhouse is a boy-next-door type of guy who's kind of geeky when he makes inventions for Barbie's use.) Told you I like it more than Rain does hahaha!

barbie toys

And of course, the area had a couple of shelves filled with Barbie toys with discount! Life in the Dream House cast is complete!

More Barbie toys! But I seriously like Life-in-the-Dreamhouse Barbie. Not the normal Barbie.

This Barbie Free Play is only until August 31, 2014. According to the Toy Kingdom staff, there are some activities with freebies on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. And for the rest of the week, it's free play. Will definitely take advantage of this for the month of August. Kudos to Toy Kingdom for free plays!!!

Pinypon: Rain's Security Toy!

I was at Toy Kingdom one time and I wanted to buy a toy for Rain. Because of Rain's fondness of playing puppeteer and making tiny dialogues with her little Sesame Street plastic figurines, I wanted to get her something similar. And while I was looking around at Toy Kingdom Megamall, I saw a section called PinyPon. I watched the commercial playing on the small TV thing on the display and they just looked SO DARN CUTE!!!

pinypon

There's lots of different themes to choose from that's why it's sooo frustrating!

pinypon

The awesome thing about Pinypons is that you can interchange the hair, head, upper body, skirt, and legs. The head has two faces with different expressions. One at the front, one at the back. So you can turn the head to choose whichever expression your little girl wants. Rain knows her Pinypon so well that she knows which expression she wants. Sometimes we mess with her by switching the face behind her back, and she will always notice and switch it back. So funny! Does this make us bad parents? Hahaha! :-) We're just playing with her no judging haha!

pinypon

So anyway, this is the very first Pinypon set I got for Rain. And that was the start of a beautiful toy-kid friendship! And ever since then, you will almost always see Pinypons in her photos because she takes it with her wherever we go!

She looks for them as soon as she wakes up...

And because Pinypon is all plastic,, it's always with her whenever she takes a bath.

If we dare leave the house without packing 2 or more Pinypons, hell will break loose. If other toddlers had security blankets, or security pillows, or security stuffed toys, Rain's security toy is PinyPon! Seeing how much she loved it and how loyal she is to it, how could I not buy more? :-)

pinypon caravan

The PinyPon Caravan...

pinypon

I've gotten her a lot that this toy box you see in the background is dedicated only to her PinyPon toys. Ever since more toy parts have gone missing, I've become more strict with organizing her toys. But of course, with toddlers, something will always end up missing.)

Oh, just a bit of disclaimer. PinyPon is actually for ages 4 and up. Because it has really tiny parts that toddlers might choke on. So whenever I buy her a PinyPon, I only give her the doll and keep the small parts until she's old enough to play with them.

And these are the other new Pinypons I saw in some toy stores that I really really really want to get for Rain! (And then will just feel frustrated afterwards when she starts losing some parts. It's a vicious cycle really). But look how cute!!!:

Winter Pinypon

pinypon princess

Princess Pinypon

And if I could I would also get her the plane, the mall, the apartment, the boat, the hotel... AAAAAAAARGH!

pinypon

I love Pinypon because you can buy just one doll for as low as P249. That's the cheapest. And that's cheap compared to other newly released toys, right? The bigger sets like the caravan, boat, and way up to the really big sets like the Ski resort or mall, etc. ranges from P1,500 to 2,900 if I'm not mistaken.

pinypon

And of course, it all becomes so worth it because she really really loves it. Other toys have come and gone but it's Pinypon she always looks for. (I just wish she'd stop losing the other parts haaaaaay! But I still buy anyways!)

Pinypon is made by Famosa Group, a leading toy brand in Spain and Portugal. You can buy Pinypon in leading toy stores nationwide. And you can check out the rest of their amazing catalog here! Like Pinypon Philippines on Facebook! Or check the Pinypon official website.

Sangobion Encourages Women to Go Love Life!

picture heart shape

I have to admit that I can be a lazy mom. Not to be defensive and not to sound cliche, but I'm only human. If I could only afford to lay in bed all day, play Cookie Jam and Tsum Tsum on my phone, I would. But in real life, I am a mother of a 2 year old toddler, and a wife. And a sister, and a daughter, and some other things. Needless to say,  it's not all that easy.

So when I heard about  how Sangobion capsule can help me, I thought to myself that I needed this to give me an everyday boost to actually do my roles in life. I'd like to think of it as an anti-lazy vitamin.

sangobian moms

From what I gathered from Sangobion Mom Joyce Mendez, Sangobion helps her by giving her energy for work and still have energy for her family when she get home. Kelly Misa on the other hand, shares that Sangobion  that natural energy feeling. Not the bad kind of high if you know what I mean.

I learned that Sangobion can help protect us from common sickness. This is an important thing as we all know how hard it is to be a sick mom. It's really the worst! When I was single I used to secretly love being sick to get that special treatment hahaha! Now, as a mom, it's a totally different story. I have experienced taking care of my toddler while being sick and it is so exhausting, not to mention the risk of passing on your virus to your baby.

Photo by cousin Jeff A. :-)
With all of these factors put together, the tendency for us moms is that we forget that we need to take care of ourselves too. We tend to put our needs last, and put our family's needs first. Ever since I became a mom, I always tied my hair into a bun. Not even a pony tail. A BUN! Because I have really bad hair and I always wanted to hide it. I didn't have 7 hours to spare to have my hair rebonded like I always did when I was single. It took me a long time to buy make up or even shop for nice clothes. So for quite some time, I looked... well... 'losyang' as they say in the Philippines. This means old.

sangobian go love life

Because of this, Sangobion launched their new campaign called 'Go Love Life!' last May 2014.  With this new campaign, Sangobion aims to remind us moms that we should not forget ourselves too. That us women should take care of our health as well, have a good work-life balance, and go back to looking great! This way we can continue loving ourselves and enjoy life.

Sangobion is an iron booster with vitamins and minerals that helps fight stress, gives energy, and so over all making us feel better. And of course, when we feel better, we operate better. And when we operate and feel better, the only next thing that is sure to happen is that we pass along that positive vibe to everyone around us. As they say, happy wife, happy life (or something like that).

Here are the things I learned from Mrs. Zaida Noblejas -Gamilla MD., Professor and Chair Department of OB-GYN in UST

Why do we need iron?

It's simple, really. It's because iron helps fight anemia. Anemia is more common to us women because of our monthly period (ugh!), because of pregnancy, because of child birth, and because of lactation. (Really, guys. It's not easy.) And in very bad cases, anemia can lead to heart failure.

What are the factors that can develop iron deficiency:

Vegans - deficient in iron

Athletic / into sports - they have great demand for iron. Because when muscles get used up, they demand iron. So does lots of exercise.

Genetic - anemia may be hereditary.

Sources of iron:

Red meat is a source of iron. (YEEEES!!!!!!! I love red meat! But of course, like everything else, only in moderation!)

Signs of anemia / iron deficiency:
  • Lack of concentration
  • Pallor (unhealthy pale appearance)
  • Easily fatigued / Always tired
  • Shortness of breath
  • Headache / Dizziness (Vertigo)

Why Sangobion?

Because Sangobion has Ferrous Gluconate. This is an organic iron. This organic iron is easily absorbed by the body to fight all the signs of anemia mentioned above.

And the best reason why I like Sangobion is the capsule's chocolatey scent! So it doesn't have any bitter after-taste.

Sangobion does not only contain iron but it also gas vitamin C, folic acid, vitamin B12, copper, and manganese which helps build healthy red blood cells and immune system.
