Baby Expo Philippines 2013 (And An Exciting Giveaway!)

Some two years ago, I was a desperate wife trying to get pregnant. My husband and I were trying everything we can to conceive. I was sooooo ready to be a mom. I just needed a baby. (More on our experience on conceiving in a separate post). But as everything happens in God's time, on the month of February 2011, that white pregnancy test kit finally showed two lines! I couldn't be happier!

Soon after double confirming with the doctor and announcing to our families the great news, a big realization hit me...

I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT TAKING CARE OF BABIES!

Panic mode! I have never had to take care of an infant (be it a sibling or niece or nephew) in my life. This would be the first time. Luckily I have 2 wonderful sister-in-laws who are already moms and of course my Mother-in-law who are readily available to give me tips.

But I felt I still had to be on the look-out for places where I can buy stuff  for babies and moms to be. As a first-time clueless mom, it was important for me to be able to go to one place where I can already see all the latest must-haves that I could possibly need. So every time there was a baby bazaar I made sure I would attend.

Rina's Rainbow is a Partner! :-)

How about you? Are you with child? Clueless like I was? You can relax a bit now because a huge baby expo is happening on December! It's the Baby Expo Philippines 2013 - Welcoming Life, Love, and Care! It's the country's biggest family expo that is dedicated to nurture family development and child care. Everything you will ever need and more for taking care of your family all under one roof (or under one convention center for that matter hehe). It will house over 200 participating brands to be held on December 6-8, 2013 at the SMX Convention Center Manila, Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City. (Aha! Perfect for the 13th month pay hehehe!)

Enjoy up to 80% discount from over 200 exhibitors so you can shop 'till you drop. (The "till you drop" applies to dads of expectant moms okay? Soon-to-be-moms, your job is to just point at what you like hahaha)

In those three days, guests will not only be able to shop but they can also attend helpful seminars and talks that are geared towards children's health, as well as security, safety, and of course education, and more. And while mommies and daddies sit and listen to these talks by professionals, the children can indulge themselves in kiddie activities that are not only fun but educational as well. Joyful learning!

Moms who are into fashion will for sure have a blast with the Baby Fashion Weekend. It's the first in the country. Watch preggy moms, mom-daughter, dad-son, etc strut down the runway in stylish clothes made by the top designers and brands of the country.

You can also witness the Sayaw Baby and Baby Olympics 2013 wherein parents can show off their nappy changing skills, Sandi Awards where celebrity  families / entrepreneurs are featured and recognized through the Golden Family Awards, and Parentpreneur Awards. You can also see who will be crowned the #BibongBaby of the Year.

According to MediaCom Solutions Inc. President and Baby Expo Philippines founder David Abrenilla, “The BABY EXPO PH is an event for the entire family, expecting parents as well as relatives and friends to enjoy and spend quality time together through the fun-filled activities we lined up.”

Pamulak Kadayawan 2013: Making Floral Floats

My Davao trip has been a lot of firsts for me. As I mentioned in my earlier post, it was my first time to visit Davao, my first time to experience a fiesta, and thus it was also my first time to see a floral float being made! It was so awesome! It was for the floral float parade called Pamulak Kadayawan that was going to happen that following morning (August 18). I would have totally volunteered to help if I could! In a way I kind of envied all of them staying up all night with a group of fun people and working together to create something special! And special it was!

How beautiful right? Participating floats are required to have 80% flowers and 20% organic materials. This float is for Abreeza Mall of Ayala.

This was an all-nighter job. The floats had to be prepared the night before the parade to make sure the flowers are still fresh and beautiful. So you can only imagine the level of stress when some problems arise like for example, miscalculating the amount of flowers needed, etc. Everyone has to be on their toes to make sure all challenges are solved!

Sleepy, kuya? It's still early! Hehe

I so love the color of this flower! Is it blue? Is it purple? So pretty!

Sorry little boy we have to dress you up in flowers. It's just for one day. Promise.
R is for Rain :-) And Rina. And Richie ;-)
They nailed the Coca Cola logo!

Weeeeeee!
Sliding in a slide full of fresh flowers looks like fun!

Have you ever seen the inside of a float? Boy it looks hot in there! But don't worry!
Airconditioning and an extra little fan is provided for the driver.

Despite the heaps of work they had to do, Davaoeños and  Davaoeñas still worked with bright smiles on their faces!

Even this Manilenyo had a blast! Weeeeeee!

Thanks again Marco Polo Davao for taking us for a sneak peak at how these lovely Floral floats were made!  Thank you to Ms. Arlene L. Puentespina of Puentespina Orchids & Tropical Plants for allowing us to witness your group create these lovely floats!

Pamulak Kadayawan 2013: The Parade

My province is Bangued, Abra. And as far as I know, there aren't really any fiestas there. I only remember the annual Procession wherein statues of saints parade around the whole town. I enjoyed every minute of it when I was small. We would choose which saint to follow and then parade with them with candles. It was always a fun experience. But it was my first time ever to see a parade with dance presentations and flower floats in Davao during the Kadayawan Festival last August 16-18. And that's all thanks to Marco Polo Hotel Davao for sponsoring a blogger's weekend there. That was some pampering!

We were lucky to have had a sneak peek on how the floats are made (which I recently blogged about here). We saw two amazing floats being made and so I was so excited to see the other participating floats the following morning on the parade at around 8AM.

Come the next morning, it was only 7:30 when we heard some drumming from outside. I was half asleep. So I got up and saw that it had already started! I quickly washed up and told Richie I would rush downstairs. I grabbed Nikki (my camera), and my phone, totally forgetting to put on sunblock. But it was all good because Marco Polo set up a covered stage where their guests can sit and watch the parade. So my nognog-ness was not THAT bad.

The front of the hotel was the most perfect spot to watch the Kadayawan presentations and parades. Front row, baby! So event if I totally forgot to recharge my camera's battery the night before (I only had 2 bars left), and also forgot to dump photos (I only had 20+ photo space), I was able to get pretty okay shots using my iPad. I'm telling you, if you want to go to Davao for the Kadayawan Festival, Marco Polo is the way to go.

So anyway I won't keep you waiting! Let the Pamulak Kadayawan parade begin!

Small but pretty fishy!

If I Were a Millionaire...

I'm actually having second thoughts about writing this because you might all think I'm materialistic. Well, maybe in some level I am. But really...aren't we all? Even just a tinge? Personally I think there's nothing wrong about dreaming of material things from time to time, right? Things we see in the mall, on television, etc. Just keeping it real.

That's why I thought of writing this blog post to write about what Richie and I would do if we were millionaires. Hold on... hmmmm.... since we're dreaming and all, might as well change that to Billionaire. Hehehe. We love playing this game! We always play this game in the car during traffic. "Game! What do we do first when we win the lottery?".  Things we want to spend on when we have lots of money. (I keep saying WHEN instead of IF so I can attract it! ;-) One has to always assume a happy ending!

...pay off all credit cards

If When Richie and I are billionaires, first thing we plan to do is pay off all credit cards.

I want to be able to see a tree waving through the breeze when I look outside my window.

If When Richie and I were are Billionaires, we would get another house. A bigger once just enough for us + 2 kids + 1 cook, and a helper for cleaning. We don't need a mansion really. But we do want a huge lot! So our kids have a lot of green playing area. And I want to plant trees around my property. I want to be able to see a tree waving through the breeze when I look outside my window.

I would go to the first Apple store I see and purchase an iPhone5

When Richie and I are billionaires, I would go to the first Apple store I see and purchase an iPhone. If you know me well, you would know that I'm very much fascinated with mobile phones. Be it a simple alpha-numeric phone to a super high-tech smart phone. I like looking at them (go figure). But as much as I am fascinated by this gadget, I am not the type to change my phone every few months or every time a new model comes out. In fact, my BlackBerry Torch 9800 is more than 2 years old. That's not so bad right?  Which is why I have been dreaming of getting a new smartphone. I want to go back to iPhone so I think I want to get an iPhone5. White. (And get a kikay casing at that hehe).

The most important thing to me is that we go to Disney World...
When Richie and I are billionaires, we most definitely plan to travel. No need to get first class tickets. Maybe business class for trips that are more than 6 hours. The most important thing to me is that we take the kids to Disney World, Universal Studios, and Sesame Street Place.

I now also want to go to Bora Bora. Its just so breathtakingly beautiful!

And because of this FaceBook page called Amazing Things/Places in the World, I now also want to go to Bora Bora. Its just so breathtakingly beautiful! That could be me in the picture!

...a family van for road trips. We'll call it the "Fun Z" har har har
Cars? I don't intend on buying the luxury ones. I don't really care much for cars. Of course as long as its brand new (to spare us some headaches caused by 2nd hand cars) and is either made by Honda, Toyota, Mitsubishi, or maybe Ford? We want at least 1 sedan car and 1 family van for road trips. We'll call it the "Fun Z" har har har. I'm clueless with cars not like my sis Pretty Pink Piston and my dad hahaha!

I'd want to give to a charity that gives free schooling for kids.
We also plan to give to charity. I know it sounds cliche but we really do want to. I'd want to give to a charity that gives free schooling for kids. So children will at least know how to vote wisely hehe. Education = awareness = wise voting = good leader = great future!

Of course other stuff like Rain's tuition from play school until college will be covered for already. And we'll start a business of our own. Not sure what yet. Richie and I don't plan on pissing all our imaginary money away. We want to be practical about things.

Siiiiigh.... it's so nice to dream! I know I'll keep on looking at this post so I can attract it all! Think positive! Law of attraction is The Secret! ;-) And of course 100% faith in God!

Old photo of Rain and Richie goofing around hehe. They are all I will ever need :-)

Then *poof!!!* I'm back to reality. Looking at my husband and my daughter sleeping beside me at 2AM and I'm thinking how happy I am that despite all the challenges, I am 100% lucky that I have these two loves of my life and that they are very healthy and happy! At least I have this checked on my wish list already. In the end it's what matters most :-)

How about you? What are your wish lists? :-)

Skin Care for Me and My Rainbow: Physiogel

I have always had oily skin. And I always found it as a curse. I've had a lot of photos with my face shinier than a diamond (eew). That’s why when I heard about Physiogel at first I thought it was something that I wouldn't need because it was marked as a "moisturizer". And the last thing that I needed was to extract more oil into my already pimply face. But obviously I don’t know much about skin care. And it was during the Physiogel event that I learned a great deal about how this product works.

According to the skin test, my skin scored a 33.8. And according to the girl who tested my skin, that’s still on the normal range but more on the low normal. The goal really is to score a 45.0 to 99.9 which is the moisturized state (see chart below). Because let’s face it, as irritating oily skin can be, it can be a gift because extra moisture makes skin age slower. Meaning you might not see wrinkles any time soon yay!

I don’t know if it’s psychological but as soon as I got home and tried the Physiogel lotion, it really gave a different kind of moisturizing feeling. Because it’s almost as mild as water, after applying it felt the same freshness that I feel when I quickly submerged my skin in water. Seriously. That’s how I felt. With that I was convinced that this product was really something.

Top Make Up Artist RB Chanco uses Physiogel

Top make up artists actually use Physiogel in their make up regime to make sure that they take precaution especially in applying make up to women who have sensitive skin.  (See more photos of the make up session at the end of the post)

But what really caught my attention was that Physiogel Cream and Lotion is mild enough to use on babies! Just because babies are known to have smooth clear skin doesn't mean they don’t need protection. In fact, the more they need something to repair and hydrate their sensitive beautiful skin. Repair from rashes and the like.

Check out this photo. The allergy effect of Physiogel (if any) is almost the same as plain water. Pretty amazing!

Apparently, Physiogel has DMS (Derma Membrane Structure). To explain it more plainly, think of DMS as this thing that mimics the natural lipids of a human skin. It spreads out very evenly and blends perfectly with our skin’s natural layers. That’s why my skin felt naturally refreshed and not at all heavy and hot after putting on the Physiogel lotion. Seriously. Plus, it won’t easily get washed off with water because it locks in moisture, just as our skin’s natural lipids does.

Another awesome fact is that this DMS’ natural lipids are made from different kinds of plant sources like yeast, olives, palm oil, and soy beans. It also has shea butter. This adds another plus points to Physiogel. You hear “natural” and that immediately catches a mom’s attention. Physiogel lotion and cream contains no colorants, perfume, and preservatives. Sounds good to me!

Physiogel brilliantly patented this DMS technology which means no other local product has this. I’m honestly very happy to have had the chance to get acquainted with this product. And I’m even more happy to find out that they have reduced their price by 29% less! Awesome! I won’t be buying these just for me but for Rain too! Hitting two birds with one stone! Rain and I can have healthy moisturized skin through repairing.  ;-)

Davao's SM Lanang

Before we went to Davao, I used to think SM Baguio was the only unique SM I have seen. It was so different from the usual big concrete box exterior design that I always see in all the SMs in Manila. They had a huge alfresco balcony thingy where you can take a whiff of Baguio's fresh pine scented air and enjoy a fresh green view of The City of Pines. But Davao proved me wrong.

Despite having that big concrete box exterior, the inside of SM Lanang is huge and pretty. You'll see what I mean in th next photo...

Tadaaaa! Look how huge and stylish it is! Now I understand what Richie meant when he said I might find SM Aura pretty if I haven't been to SM Lanang. It really is different from the usual SMs.

Spaceous is the best word to describe it. And I love the floating Starbucks. It's in the middle of the mall and it looks like it's floating. The stores are pretty much the same as what we have here in Manila. Except that they didn't have an Eye 2 Eye store/booth which Richie and I were really hoping to find because we both didn't have sunglasses And we wanted to buy cheap but nice ones (because we almost always end up losing it or breaking it hehe.)

And then they also have an alfresco dining area at the second floor with pretty fountains. More restaurants are situated there. I can imagine this specific area being packed with people who are trying to unwind on a Friday night after work.

Too bad we didn't get to visit Ayala's Abreeza when we were there. Oh well, hoping there's a next time :-)

Village Tavern Favorites!

Okay so this is really a delayed post. In fact it's 8 months delayed hehe. Just wanted to share with you one of our favorite restaurants in the Metro. Village Tavern by Bistro Group. It was love at first bite. (Read about my hubby's review here). After tasting their delicious menu, we knew it was going to be the start of something good! So anyway, we love Village Tavern so much that Richie and I decided to take my sister there as a birthday dinner with my Dad and of course the little Rainbow.

Village Tavern is at the 2nd floor of the Bonifacio High Street Central. It's that restaurant that has that cabin feel in its interiors.

Waiting for a table. Place is packed!
The place was packed when we got there but the servers were organized in cueing the customers like Flo in Diner Dash. Not too long after, we were finally seated at a nice booth (albeit a bit cramped especially when you have a rambunctious 1+ year old baby sitting beside you, but we don't mind!)

As usual, we let Richie do the ordering. That's his expertise! He ordered us the Village Tavern Sampler (P795) which was a good call because we got to sample all their top appetizers: calamari, spring roll, crab cake, and pulled pork quesadilla.

It would not be right if we didn't order the Blackened Shrimp (P595) which is my ultimate favorite appetizer. Sure it's a bit steep but oh my goodness you will not mind the price once you get a taste of this creamy Bayou cream sauce! It was a perfect mix of saltiness and a tiny bit of heat! Sort of like curry, kind of... To tell you honestly, this was the main reason why we took there at Village Tavern. This is what I have been raving about. And yes they loved it!

This is our favorite pizza from Village Tavern. The Gruyere Applewood - Smoked Bacon and Caramelized Onions (495). First of all who doesn't love bacon? Second of all, we just love the sweet aroma of the applewood plus the sweetness  and saltiness of the caramelized onions. I think this may be one of my favorite pizza in general!

I ordered the Panko Crusted White Fish Fillet was also awesome. The lightness of the fish plus the creaminess of the sauce went really well together. Sort of like fish and chips but with rice and salad. My only comment? I want more sauce!

My sister and dad ordered the Braised Beef and they seemed to love it. The meat was very soft and seasoned well. Good fat to meat ratio too! If I'm not mistaken, this and the Panko Crusted fish isn't really a part of the regular menu. But you can ask your friendly server for this.

Richie I think had some sort of steak. (Hun, help! I can't find what you ate on the menu! Probably not a part of the regular menu too? Anyway the smile on his face says it all. He loves meat!

We ended the meal with this HUGE Double Decker Cheesecake (P450)! It was called double decker for a reason. It had thick layer of chocolate cheesecake and then another thick layer of the traditional cheesecake on a plate drizzled with raspberry and chocolate sauce. I love the fact that it's not overly sweet. It's just really huge. One person can't finish this. Unless you're a cheesecake monster.

One other reason why we love dining at Bistro Group is because of the Premier Card. This card costs P2,500 but it has so much perks and discounts already and is applicable in any Bistro Group restaurant.

During each dine, you can get 20% OFF your bill just by presenting your Premier card. And then you also get 25% OFF your bill on your Birth Month. (Happy Birthday!). Next you can also get 30% OFF your bill every Monday. (No more manic Mondays!). The card also includes two 40% OFF Dining Vouchers up to P3,000 spend. It also has six Appetizer Vouchers, plus Complimentary Coffee or Tea for every visit. Good for coffee lovers like me!

Anyway, even though the prices are a bit on the steep side, our tummies were beyond satisfied. Overall it was a good birthday dinner for my sister. 'Till this day she dreams of the Blackened Shrimp. If you haven't tried it yet, you're missing half of your life! (Except if you're allergic to shrimps and other shellfish creatures hehe)

Throwback Thursday: A Childhood Toy

I couldn't believe what I saw from Rain's stuff. I think it was from one of the loot bags she got from a party (sorry I can't remember from who's party it may have been) But when I saw this I got so excited! Childhood memories immediately came rushing back! I haven't seen this toy in years! PLASTIC BALLOON!!!!

So of course I immediately played with it and was so excited to let Rain play with the balloon (I'm in charge of making it of course). I shaped the plastic paste into a bulb on the end of the plastic straw using my mouth like how we did it way back then hehehe. Could it be toxic? I'm not sure but I'm still alive so I guess that's a good sign.

Voila! After X years I again made a plastic balloon!!! Rain was amazed as well!

I had to keep reminding her not to get gigil with it. But of course I couldn't stop her.

*Poof!* That lasted for 5 seconds. Oh well That was fun!:-)

Hello iOS7!

Yay! I feel like I have a new iPad!

I've said this numerous times before and I'll say it again... I'm fond of gadgets. Mobile phones particularly. Anything new, be it high tech or old school, excites me. And today is a happy day for me because I finally downloaded the iOS7! I feel like I have a new toy!

As soon as I saw that the update was available late last night, my sleepiness went away. But i had a few challenges while downloading.

First off, there was a message saying that I have to delete some files because it needed at least 3.4 GB of storage to download it. Shucks. I had a looooot of photos. So I quickly deleted some photos I didn't need anymore as well as aps I don't really like.

But then i still had an error message. Something like "an error has occured in downloading". I shut off the iPad first and then turned it on again. And then tried again. The downloading started. It said 2 hours before completion. So I left it downloading and went to bed.

Good thing Rain woke me up early because she wanted milk because I saw that the download once again failed :( I was getting frustrated. So I tried it again and went back to bed. After an hour, I woke up and it was completed! Yay!!! I love it!

To complete the iOS7 feel, I set the wallpaper to that night sky with stars (default).that's the wallpaper they used in the iOS 7 video. I love the 3D-ish feel when I move the iPad and the stars also move.

I like the fact that They finally made the settings shortcut accessible wherever page or app you are, just like android. (It's about time!)

And also they made the multitasking so much easier by showing thumbnails. Again like how it is with Android. The camera also has HDR settings.

Browsing the net with the safari is so much cleaner. So minimalist!

But I did notice it became a bit slower... I hope this is just for the meantime. I hope I don't meed to delete more files. Anyway I can't wait to fiddle with it more and discover more!:-)

It's a tissue disguised as a wallet hahaha! Richie loves buying pocket tissues and so this was perfect for him! None of those floral designs you usually see :-) It's a manly man tissue!

Richie also found these Sesame Street Band Aids for Rain for her boo boos
or as Rain would call it: "Oh No...".

There :-) Just thought of sharing these cute Watsons finds :-)

(Thursday last week) I just dropped off Richie at Market Market to catch a cab while I find a place to park somewhere in The Fort Strip and kill time until event I have to attend to at Aracama starts. I was supposed to look for a McDonalds to have a quick affordable breakfast when I realized there was none nearby. I didn't want to be late so I looked for something that was just close to Arcama and saw A Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf shop just across. Okay so I guess I'll just have coffee (Deep inside I was happy. I love their White Chocolate Dream). And plus, the inside looks cozy and cool so I couldn't resist.

It's my second time at a CBTL Bistro. The first one I went to was at the New East Wing of Shangri-La Mall. But this one is bigger. And the waitress was so accommodating as she explained to me their breakfast menu. She explained that their all-day breakfast had a complimentary coffee. And so my plan to just have a cup of coffee was changed to a breakfast plate of Eggs Benedict.

Complimentary Coffee

At least I get this huge cup of coffee and a filling and classy breakfast at the same time for P325, instead of buying an glass of just iced cold coffee for 165. I think it's not bad... (Or maybe I'm just convincing myself that I didn't really overspend hahaha!)

The Eggs Benedict come in two pieces. And after finishing the first piece I was already kind of full. Feeling so much better now with the 325 price.

I like this place. It's a good spacious place to write. I also like the fact that the waiters occasionally check up on you if everything is satisfactory.  I just think they need faster service because the eggs Benedict took a while. I didn't actually get to record how long it took them to give me my food but it was long enough for me to realize that it hasn't arrived yet. Also, I asked for water and it never arrived. I had to follow up with another waiter.

I also like the fact that you don't need to present your CBTL card to avail of the wifi. I think it's free for all customers. Just ask fort the password. At least killing time and waiting for my food to arrive was so much easier with facebook and instagram and the like.

Other photos of the place:

Later on, at the CBTL branch at Burgos Circle where I met up with my old colleague, I got to try their new Expresso Cream Ice Blended Drink. It was alright. Nothing really special. I guess because I have tried ordering an Expresso Frap from Starbucks numerous times. With double expresso too! So it was nothing new to me. In fact this one was milder. My favorite is still the White Chocolate Dream :-) Anyway hope to be back in 26th St. Bistro soon!

During Rain's 1st Birthday :-)

It's October!!!

No I'm not excited about Halloween (Okay maybe I am a little bit) but what I'm most excited about is my little Rainbow's 2nd birthday! This little rambunctions toddler is turning 2 years old! Oh my how time flies! Seemed like only yesterday that we celebrated her first birthday! I'm so excited! But...

Photos from my good friend, Blue from Rain's 1st birthday;-)

But after the feeling of excitement comes the feeling of panic. There's tons of things to do when planning a party. Be it huge or small. A lot of things to consider like the cake, the food, the tables and chairs, etc. And moms need all the help they can get.

The truth is, Richie will be out of town during Rain's birthday for The Pickiest Eater blog. Which is okay because Rain is too young anyways to understand that it's her birthday. We will be having her birthday party when Richie comes home (which my sweet Mother in law is already working on as early as now! How cool is she?!). But of course, I still personally want to have a little something to celebrate her birthday on the day itself.

Call it coincidence but last week, Red Ribbon is soon launching this cool and exciting tool that can help plan budget parties! What perfect timing! And we were fortunate to witness the blogger launch of this cool new website.

Presenting Red Ribbon's Budget Planner: www.birthdaybudgetplanner.com !

In this heaven-sent website, anyone can easily plan parties. The site can show you a list of suppliers based on your location and budget.

Just fill in the details such as your budget, or number of people, and it will suggest a list of suppliers and packages that best fits your needs.

Take note though this is only a planning / database tool. Red Ribbon will not execute the planning for you. (If you want to hire someone who can do all the planning for you and you don't want to lift a finger or are too busy to do so, what you want is an actual Party Planner hehehe. ) Once you're satisfied with the planned allocation of your budget with your chosen suppliers, you can print your list and carry it around with you as your checklist as you get into action!

What's also cool about this whole thing is that the list of suppliers this site will provide isn't necessarily locked within Red Ribbon. Not that that's a bad thing but it's good to have more variety. This means your food can be from a nearby Jollibee, can also even be Rufus Tapa, Chowking, and more! They also provide a list for party favor suppliers, tables and chairs, party entertainers, and the like. Except of course for the cake. Which brings me to the next awesome point...

8x8 Dedication Cake

Red Ribbon has also launched their new dedication cakes! It's a wide birthday cake that has more than enough space for a nice dedication straight from the heart. Starting with an 8x8 birthday cake for the low price of only P299! And as big as a 12x12 cake for only P690! They come 2 flavors which are Chocolate and Mocha.

And just when you think it couldn't get any cooler, it does. You can personalize and preview your dedication cake over at the birthday budget planner site. And as soon as you are done, Red Ribbon will deliver the cake to you!

Just like that, my "a little something" plan for Rain's birthday is solved! I'm excited to use this tool! Are you also planning a celebration?

Maybe a graduation...
or a Mother's / Father's Day...
Pet Day....
First Boyfriend celebration...
New job...
New dress...

... the list goes on and on! You can make each simple celebration truly special with a Red Ribbon dedication cake! check out the site now!

Another Fun Weekend at F1 Hotel Manila!

Being a work-at-home-mom may look easy from the outside looking in. After all, we're just home all day. Don't need to get up hours earlier to prepare for work. We can take quick naps in the middle of the day if we wanted. We can just watch our favorite TV programs while working. We're just a few steps away from our fridge. You get the picture. But I wish it was that easy. Truth is, I don't event have time to do other important things like play Plants Vs. Zombies except at night when everyone's asleep hahaha!

Excited to check in!
That's why whenever my little family (no pun intended) gets a chance to have a staycation, my answer is always a big HELL YEAH!!! This means relax time for Mommy Rina! And this time we're lucky to be invited back for a second staycation at F1 Hotel Manila! (See our awesome first staycation here).

This was the second Blogger's Event at the F1 Hotel in BGC and this time we were with other amazing bloggers and their lovely families!

Mr. Tony Co and his staff

Mr. Tony Co, F1's Director of Operations who personally welcomed us at the Premier Lounge made an introduction to their Cafe's Christmas Buffet menu spread by the Executive Chef, the ever famous Mr. Sau Del Rosario. Yep, this early on, F1 already has the Yuletide season going on! More on this feast on The Pickiest Eater!

The great thing about staycations is that it's just plain relaxation. Period. Just stay in the hotel and enjoy the soft bed, fluffy pillows, the cool airconditioning, glorious food, and all the facilities it has to offer. It's during this time that you can leave all your house-related stress at home and just be carefree even for just 24 hours.

And though I was looking forward for a well-deserved RnR for myself, I was more excited for Rain to have a change of scenery as well and run around the hotel room and play all day long!

First thing we do when we check-in in a hotel with Rain is unplug all phones. Yes, she loves playing pretend-call-with-Elmo. You can already see her going for the phone as soon as we enter this lovely bedroom.

And as you can see, their Fort Suite has a lot of space Rain can run around in!

We definitely felt at home here. Especially when we turned on the TV and saw that FRIENDS was playing on Jack TV. This episode is so funny! Ross' spray-on tan gets out of control!

Ooops! Looks like Rain wants to "call" dibs on the master's bedroom! And looks like Mr. Zamora is not amused...

Now she's calling dibs on the living room! She's everywhere!

Then we're off to lunch at the F1 All-Day Cafe. Richie and I definitely enjoyed their new Yuletide spread....

....most especially the Christmas Ham (drool). More on the food review coming soon of course from the The Pickiest Eater.

But with all the glorious food, Rain particularly loved the Egg Drop soup!

Group pic time with the Mommist and her adorable boys!
But looks like Rain can't be bothered while watching Sesame Street hahaha!
The simple yet nicely designed and spacious bathroom of the Fort Suite
My routine with Rain everyday is that around after lunch, I give her a quick bath so she feels refreshed before taking a nap. Usually she likes swimming on bathtubs but even if our suite didn't have one, that wouldn't stop Rain from having a fun bath time!

....So I took the shower hose, placed it on the floor so it sprayed like a fountain. She went nuts! She loved it so much she didn't want to leave the shower! Yep, she loves the water!

In the late afternoon, after some siyesta time for Richie and Rain (and tv time in the living room for me), we took Rain for a swim. Since it was a gloomy day, the water was a bit cold. So we didn't stay for long especially when it started to rain (but mind you, Rain, like her dad, doesn't get cold easily. In fact she kicks her blanket at night while sleeping even with the aircondition on. Okay I'm being a defensive mom haha!) But despite the cold water, Rain still had loads of fun (Isn't it obvious in this picture? Hehehe)

She even met a lot of new friends! Here we are with the handsome and super nice boys of The Mommist

I guess I forgot to mention that during our assembly downstairs with the other bloggers, the F1 Management gave us a box of Croquembouche, a lovely holiday-themed dessert. So after our swimming, Rain and I both felt like having a snack. Perfect time to eat the croquembouche! It was soft and not overly sweet. the creamy centers had different flavors and colors.

I had around 3 pieces, Richie had about 2, and Rain ate the rest! I couldn't believe it!  She kept asking for more and more and more. (By the way, thanks Spanky for giving her another box! Hehehe)

F1 Hotel Manila has only one Spa room but I must say they really made the most out of it. It has 2 beds,

....and on the right side is a nice tub  surrounded by stones. So zen-ish!

On the far left side are two lounge chais for mani pedi!

And from there you can see the entrance to the Jacuzzi area
The Jacuzzi deserves a solo shot!

There is also a steam room right by the Jacuzzi

This would be a perfect treat for couples! Down side? It's hard to book the room since there is only one. But you can still get a nice massage via room service. No need to leave your room for a good massage! They will come to you!

The following day....

Come the next day, it's breakfast buffet time! They have a pretty good spread of breakfast favorites such as bacon (of course), adobo which I liked, fluffy eggs as well as an omelette station, two kinds of cereals, and of course pancakes and waffles.

Rain enjoyed her plate of fruits for breakfast. I'm honestly beginning to think she's a fruitarian. She would choose fruits over rice. But I'm not complaining! :-)

I would honestly recommend F1 Hotel Manila to any balikbayan relatives looking for a place to stay in Manila. The location is perfect because its right smack in the middle of BGC. Very accessible from EDSA and C5. not to mention that right across is SnR, and on the next block is Mercury Drug. On the other side is Starbucks. (Yes sometimes coffee is a necessity hehehe)

Checking out. F1 gets a lot of claps from Baby Rain! :-)

Thank you once again F1 Hotel Manila for another excellent staycation!

Baby Vision Monitor Installation: Moms Can Do it!

I am eternally grateful for Baby Vision for picking Rina's Rainbow as one of their Blogger Ambassadors! (Yay! Pat on the back) And as a not-so-simple thank you, they have given us our very own Baby Vision unit!!!

I got mixed feelings when I received mine. I was happy of course because I believed in this product. And I'm not just saying that because I'm one of their ambassadors. Really. I think it's such a practical and essential gadget to have in the house for lots of obvious and important reasons. But at the same time, I felt a tinge of nervousness. I wasn't sure if I could assemble it by myself. I might end up breaking it. Richie was at work at that time. And I was way too excited to wait for him to arrive. So I shook off all my doubts and went ahead and opened the box...Here we go! Wish me luck!

The Baby Vision Camera comes with an antenna, the plastic bracket, a LAN cable, an adaptor, a small CD (which I'm not sure what it contains because our CD-Rom is busted. I hope it's not really essential in setting it up. Or else I'm in trouble haha! Of course it also has a manual and from the looks of it, looks like it's quite easy to install.

So the manual said to attach the antenna first. I screwed the antenna at the back . It's pretty easy to see where to screw it on. And then plug the adaptor. It's the one on the far right on the back of the Baby Vision Camera. It's really more like a shape sorter. Just find the correct shape of what you're plugging  and what you're plugging it into hahaha!

And then next is to plug the LAN cable. It's the one on the left. And then connect the other end of the LAN cable to your router / modem. Once I plugged in the LAN, the tiny lights beside it started flashing which indicates that it is connected to the internet.

Once you do this, the Baby Vision Monitor will start to move on its own. The camera will pan from side to side, up and down. Looks a bit like it's stretching and preparing for a workout haha! This means the monitor is initializing. The green light on the front will also be flashing at this point. The initializing doesn't take too long. Just for a few seconds.

Okay so that was easy! Didn't need my husband or any male at all to do those steps. I decided not to install the bracket because I will be taking the Baby Vision Monitor to my dad's house anyways when I leave Rain and her Yaya there while I'm out. (I still really feel the need to take them there to make sure a family member of mine is with Rain especially when I know I'll be gone for long hours.)

Anyway, that's just setting up the unit. I'm already halfway there! Next we set up the phone app. Now this I can definitely do alone.

So I just needed to download the P2PCAM264 from the App Store. But turns out that app was not iOS7-ready so it was no longer available. Thankfully, I was told by the marketing team of Baby Vision that I could use a different app called P2PCam_Live. And it worked!

After installing, I opened the app and then clicked ADD CAMERA. And then I filled in the needed info like the name of my camera (still thinking of a creative camera name haha!) Next, I entered the UID number and password which can be found at the bottom of the Baby Vision Monitor.

Added a rainbow sticker to hide our camera username hehehe. Secret! ;-)

After only a few seconds, I saw the status of the added camera on the list become ONLINE. Then I tapped on the camera name again and VOILA!!! There it was! the feed of the camera! So cool! So that's when I started trying to swipe the screen horizontally or vertically to pan the camera. It was like magic!

I can now watch Rain as she messes up the living room yet again while playing! Talk about peace of mind!

From the screen, I saw some options on the bottom and discovered how to speak, listen, or mute the sound. Speak when I want Rain to hear my voice from the monitor, listen is basically to eavesdrop hehe (time to listen how yaya teaches Rain her ABCs hehehe) And mute is just to cancel out all sounds.

As I mentioned before in first Baby Vision post, I was ecstatic with the fact that this baby monitor can run on wifi which makes it very convenient. This means I can transfer the baby monitor around the house wherever Rain is. While still connected on the LAN cable, from the P2P app, click on the arrow beside the camera, choose advanced settings, and the select WiFi. From there my iPad detected the available wifi. Then I selected our wifi connection. Once the wifi is was successfully connected, the manual said all I needed to do was remove the LAN cable from the monitor. The Monitor restarted for a few seconds and then it automatically connected to the wifi. It took a little while. I actually thought it didn't work. But I just waited for a bit and it eventually connected to the wifi on its own.

So anyway there ya go! This product is definitely easy to install even for non-techie moms. Anybody can do it!

I'm excited to test it out when I leave the house for an event! :-) Stay tuned! :-)

Simpler And Cleaner Rina's Rainbow

I've always been torn between a super colorful and girly blog design and a white and clean one. In the end, I got tired of too much purple and so I made a simpler one. But yeah I still love purple so the text and tabs are still shades of purple. No web developer hired! Just me! hehehe (Pat on the back). It's just a matter of fiddling with the templates :-)

This was my peg from Budding Blogs. Simply classy!:

I made the new rainbow and headers just by using powerpoint. (I love powerpoint! It's a dummy's photoshop!) I just combined different shapes!

The rainbow only has 3 colors since I wanted to keep it minimal. I only used the primary colors which signifies our basic, simple, but happy life! And we all know that when primary colors are combined, you can make more colors with it! Having a simple life can be a happy and colorful one!

Hope you like it as much as I do! :-) Less is more! :-)

Trying-To-Conceive Apps: Pink Pad

WARNING! This post is about girl stuff. Guys, move along! Nothing to see here! Except when you're trying to conceive with your partner for the first time :-)

Time really does fly when you're a first time mom. I can't believe it's already Rain's birth month and that she's turning 2 in a few days. Seems like only yesterday when I would feel a bit bitter towards couples who would send out pregnancy announcements before me ahahahaha... (sarcastic laughter).

I was fiddling with my old iPhone 3G when I saw my pregnancy apps. Yep. I downloaded pregnancy apps. Thank you technology! I'm not kidding these apps helped me big time! Back when we were still trying to conceive, I came across this app called Pink Pad.

Note that my screenshots may be outdated because this was way back 2010. Pink Pad helped me track the dates when annoying Aunt Flow would do her monthly visits. On the cover you will immediately see a summary such as your estimated next period, or how many days you're delayed. (Don't mind the alarming 335 days late on the screen shot. I haven't updated this app since I conceived!) It also calculates the estimate dates you'll be fertile / ovulating. And oh, and it has lots of themes to choose from! ;-)

The next tab is where you can enter all the nitty gritty and literally bloody details. You can mark if you did some intimate coloring that day with your partner, and you can indicate how strong Aunt Flow was on that day. This app is so detailed you can even record what you're feeling on a daily basis.

This is not just for the sake of record-keeping but these details will actually help determine the best dates of coloring and will help determine if you're possibly pregnant.

The next tab is the month view. This gives you a better view of your estimated dates with the use of the icons. The pink or red dot icons represent Aunt Flow and how heavy she was. (Pink is light flow. Red is heavy). The week days with the flowers are the estimated ovulation days calculated by this app. These are THE best days to "color"!

By the way, if you're a newlywed reading this and were as clueless as I was before, always remember that "coloring" when you're not ovulating is close to useless when you're trying to conceive. And that is precisely the importance of this app. It really helped a lot knowing when those days were rather than just coloring randomly then getting disappointed when you see that lonely one line on a test stick.

Aaaaanyway, with good eating and sleeping habits, no stress, and by knowing the right dates to "color", (and by letting gravity do its job by putting a pillow under your butt after coloring and laying there for 5 to 10 minutes), chances of conceiving are great. Try these basic tips first for at least 3 months and if you still don't conceive but really really want to, then you must consult with a doctor to make sure everything's okay. Like what we did. But that's a different story. For next time, maybe :-)

On top of it all, always remember to THINK POSITIVE! (I saw this nice logo during my TTC days and made it into my screen saver. A few months after, I got pregnant. LAW OF ATTRACTION, BABY!:-)

iPhone Pregnancy App: Baby Bump

$

Fiddling an old phone proved to be good time spent because I was able to reminisce on apps I used before during my pregnancy days. I previously posted Pink Pad (an app I used when we were still trying to conceive) so now let me share with you this pregnancy app called Baby Bump!

I don't know how I could have mentally survived my 9 months of pregnancy without this app. As a first time mom, I was the curious type. And I'm a visual type of person. I wanted needed to know and visualize a sperm's journey so I can visualize myself conceiving. (Yes I can be very weird). So of course I also needed to know exactly how my baby looked like as it develops from a single-celled organism to a healthy human. And this app was the perfect tool! (And yes it's free from the Apple App Store!)

You need to enter your name and baby's due date (assuming of course Pink Pad already told you you're delayed and you also already got 2 lines on your pregnancy test) This app will show you weekly information on the development of your baby, you can also change the themes of the app hehe. And a whole lot of other features!

Once you filled out your information, the welcome screen will show you a quick summary of how far along you are, which trimester you're in, and how many days left to go. On the bottom part there's like a "loading" bar that marks how far along you are already. And then you can see the features of this app here as well. Under photos, you can take photos of yourself showing your tummy. It's really a cool way of documenting your tummy size!

Here is a sample of the weekly info. It says the approximate size of the baby, comparing it to a vegetable or fruit size, and the baby's approximate weight.

There are three thumbnails on the top. One of you (your tummy photo of the week), one is an illustration of how the baby might look like at that stage, and the last one would be an illustration of your tummy and how the baby might be positioned inside.

And then on the bottom, some reference on the baby's estimated development, and your development as the mom as well (what you might be feeling and experiencing, and how to deal with those)

Here's a screenshot of my tummy gallery! :-) Sorry can't show all it doesn't fit on the screen.

This app also has a huge baby name database. You can search based on origins and popularity and you can bookmark / mark as favorite the ones you like.

For those who don't know, Rain's full name is Renee Amelie. It's French :-) It also shows the meaning of each name.

This app also comes with a kick recorder, and a contraction recorder. This can help you track the kicks and contractions you feel. Yes this is important because your OB might ask you these things. If the kicks od the baby are too plenty for one session, the app will show a pop-up message saying the maximum kicks in a certain time has reached and that you need to consult with your doctor.

There's also a section with a video that shows how the baby is ideally pushed out of your uterus and into the world during a normal delivery. Apparently it's not as easy as PUSH! PUSH! PUSH! It has to be done in a timely manner to make sure the baby comes out smoothly without any complications.

The app also has groups where you can read other users pregnancy experiences and queries that can help. Same as today's Facebook mommy groups.

Technology really amazes me. And it's all thanks to this iPhone app for helping me throughout my pregnancy by documenting my journey and also by helping me understand when and when not to freak out about something.

Disclaimer: App layout might have changed. These screenshots are from my old iPhone 3G.
