Rain's First Headphones: Kidz Gear

I remember buying these M&Ms headphones at JFK Airport on our way back to Manila because I thought they were cute. When I wear them, it looks like I have M&Ms inside my ears. It looked really cool. Unfortunately I can't say the same for the sound quality. It sounded like music out of a can. Money down the drain. I mean, was it just a toy for kids?!

Anyway, my little toddler now is at that stage where she really enjoys music. Music from all the animations she watches. Particularly songs from Disney's Princess Sofia the First, Tinkerbell, Daniel Tiger, and more. Hence, for long trips I think she will need to start using headphones.

I've never tried letting Rain use any type of earphones. Mainly because my current headphones are my iPhone's in-ear headphones which I'm pretty sure is not for kids. If she ever has the need to wear a headphone, it should be something kid-friendly, but at the same time has the same good quality as an adult's real headphones. Not like the M&Ms headphones I got.

And this is where Kidz Gear steps in...

Kidz Gear makes head sets that are kid-safe, but with excellent sound quality, custom-designed for children ages 2 and up. How do I know the sound quality is good? I used it! Sound is very good. With good bass too. It's definitely good enough for adults to use. This is definitely not a toy. Haha!

The different colors really look attractive for kids. Of course I got the color pink for Rain. (I've been trying to get neutral colors when it comes to baby stuff in case we have a baby boy some time in the near future so he can also use it. But it's so hard not to but pink for girls!!!)

What makes it kid-safe? All Kidz Gear Headsets come with a free Kidz KidzControl™ Volume Limit Cable. This makes sure that the volume remains at the safest for tiny children eardrums even if your music or video gadget is accidentally turned up to its maximum level.. The volume is limited to Approx. 80% (~ 20dB lower) of Maximum. Without the KidzControl Volume Limiting, its sensitivity is 108dB.

Speaker Size is 30mm

Another cool feature is the fold-flat design which makes it easier to stuff in your travel back without worrying if it will break or what. I also think it's worth mentioning that Kidz Gear is one of the recommended accessories for iPhones / iPads by Apple

Here are other features that more techie parents might want to know:

  • Frequency Range: 20 - 20K Hz
  • Built-in Volume Knob To Adjust Volume Range (within limit)
  • Cable Length: 4.92 ft./1.5 m

This was the first time Rain experienced using a headset and she really enjoyed it!

And you can tell her ears are comfortable.

This will definitely in my things-to-pack list for our December trip! I'll make her use this instead of the ones provided on the plane for her ear's safety!
